Why You Should Use a Web-Based Truss and Joist Design When Building a New Home
If you want to build a new home that is ready for modern challenges, meant to be as sustainable as possible and truly smart, then you will need to design it carefully from the outset. You need to use cutting-edge building techniques throughout the building process. In particular, you should choose a truss and joist system that has been designed to accommodate some of the technology you need. Why is this important?
1. The Old Approach
Traditionally, trusses and joists would have been made using solid pieces of timber joined together and installed before service introduction. Utility providers, carpenters, and electricians would then need to work together to introduce the relevant services and would invariably need to modify the joists and trusses to run everything through. This has now become an outdated approach as it makes the task of those particular contractors more complex, adds to the cost and certainly doesn't take into account new age technology like mechanical ventilation and heat recovery (MVHR).
2. Heat Exchange
MVHR technology requires a more open flooring solution that is designed to accommodate the various ducts and pipes associated with the recovery process. This solution aims to provide filtered air throughout the property by recovering air from polluted rooms (toilets, bathroom or kitchen, etc.) and feeding it through a central heat exchanger. The air will then be delivered to the other living rooms and will be suitably modified so that it is hot or cold as required.
3. Preinstallation
For this type of system to work, a detailed network of pipes will need to be installed before the building is finished. Routing will be very important, and this is why you should install a weblike truss and joist system instead.
4. Web Design
With this approach, each piece of timber is separated from the next by a steel support structure. It is then connected at right angles to another frame. This type of design means that MVHR pipes and ducts can be fed through the gaps in between each part of the structure with relative ease, and it will make the job of the utility provider much easier as well.
Are They Right for You?
You should look into the concept of mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and see if it is right for your new project. Contact companies that work with posi trusses to learn more about whether this option will accommodate your needs.
