3 Landscaping Tips to Revamp Your Commercial Property This Autumn

Posted on

As the cold weather approaches, many property owners may assume that the time for focusing on landscaping is far gone. However, this is not the case for commercial properties. Even with the cold season, people still need to purchase goods and services. If the landscape in your property is not maintained, it can ruin appearances and chase away potential clients. So, if you want to enjoy good business during this period, you have to pay attention to the aesthetic appeal of the property's exterior space. The following are some simple landscaping tips that you can use to revamp your commercial property before winter sets in.

Maintain your lawn

Don't neglect your commercial lawn just because the weather is not friendly for landscaping. Instead, take this time to tend to it and prepare it for the cold winter months ahead. First, carry out lawn perforation, a procedure that aims at aerating the grass and letting the soil breath. This will allow nutrients to reach the roots, and the result will be a healthier lawn throughout autumn and winter. Second, consider fertilizing the grass to provide nutrients that may be lacking in the soil. Do this before winter as you may not be able to maintain the lawn once the snow starts to fall. Finally, when mowing the lawn during autumn, don't overdo it. Give the grass a break so that it can reenergize to prevent brown patches during the winter.

Prune away dead branches

Autumn is the perfect time to get rid of those unwanted branches and leaves that look brown, old, and sickly. If you are suspecting that some of the plants in your commercial landscape are unhealthy, this is the time to inspect, prune, and treat them. If you go into winter with dying branches and leaves, they can significantly deteriorate the health of the plants. So, work with a landscaping expert so that they can help you identify unhealthy plants and treat them. This is also the time to spray pesticides to get rid of pests that may be making a habitat in your trees and bushes.

Check hardscaping features

Hardscaping features such as retaining walls, fountains, and pathways can dramatically improve the appearance of your commercial property. So, don't neglect them this autumn. Take the time to inspect them and ensure that they are in excellent condition. If you have concrete or stone structures, ensure that you seal them with protective coatings in readiness for the harsh weather.  Repair any cracks or structural defects as they may get worse when the features are subjected to freezing temperatures.
