Two tips for people who are having their home built in a hot climate

Posted on

If you are planning to have a home constructed in an area which has a very hot climate, here are a few tips that may be of use to you.

Install the air conditioning system during the construction process

If you want to build a house in a hot climate, it is absolutely essential to ensure that it has air conditioning

However, it can be extremely expensive to build a house. Because of this, you may find yourself looking for ways to reduce the upfront costs of your project. One way that many people choose to do this is to have the air conditioning system installed a few months after the property has been built, as this can help to keep their expenses as low as possible during the construction process.

However, this is not a good idea, as this approach could actually be far more costly and complicated in the long run.

The reason for this is as follows; if you wait until you are living in the property to have the HVAC system installed, the contractor who is performing the work will have to damage your newly-plastered and painted walls in order to install the split system units or the ducts (depending on what type of system you choose to buy).

You will then have to pay for the damaged sections of these walls to be re-plastered and repainted.

Additionally, if you have this work done when you are already residing in the house, you will have to endure at least a few days of the noise, dust and chaos that comes with having a HVAC system installed. This could be particularly problematic if you or any of your other household members are sensitive to noise or have respiratory problems that are exacerbated by breathing in dust.

In short, it would be far less stressful and expensive in the long run to simply have the air conditioning installed whilst the house itself is being constructed.

Consider having a pool built on the property

If you can afford to do so, it's worth arranging for your contractor to build a pool on the property whilst they are building the house.

There are two reasons for this. First and foremost, it will make your new home a lot more enjoyable to spend time in during the hottest months of the year, as you and your family can take a dip to cool down whenever you want to.

Secondly (and perhaps more importantly), the presence of a carefully-designed pool on your property could make your home a lot more appealing to prospective buyers in the future, if you should ever decide to sell it.

The reason for this is that the vast majority of people who want to buy properties in areas with hot climates look for homes that have pools, precisely because these structures can make living in a hot climate a lot more tolerable.
